10 Religious Easter Terms And Vocabulary Words For Kids

What are vocabulary words or terms associated with the religious Easter that I could teach my children?

Holidays hold fantastic learning opportunities for children. Even the holidays that are not typically celebrated by your family can be of interest to bring about learning for children. Easter is a holiday celebrated by Christians worldwide. The holiday celebrates the belief that Jesus the Christ died on a cross as part of a crucifixion and was placed inside a tomb dead only to raise back to life 3 days later and then ascend into heaven to offer hope to those who would believe.

Traditionally, the days of this holiday are celebrated starting with Good Friday which is the Friday before Easter Sunday which takes place two days after Good Friday. It is believed that the Christ died on Good Friday and rose to life on Easter Sunday. However, this is disputed by some to say that the crucifixion actually took place on a Wednesday leaving the prophecies such as “The Sign of Jonah being 3 days inside the whale” to come to pass. Those who believe in the Wednesday crucifixion believe so based upon the historical event taking place during Passover which would have placed a high holy day on Wednesday leaving Jesus to raise from the dead sometime after sunset on a Sabbath and sunrise on a Sunday and fulfilling prophecy.

Whichever way you choose to celebrate, the tradition of the Easter Holiday involves Good Friday and Easter Sunday which some now refer to as Resurrection Sunday instead. Teaching children about Easter includes discussion about some topics that may not be easy to explain. As a parent, use your best judgment in how life and death terms are presented and when to introduce it to your child. Following are terms and vocabulary words associated with the holiday of Easter to help children understand the history and the holiday:
